Okay, it’s not the most imaginative name they could have come up with. But this is a very nice park, consisting of an open wild area where the city discharges its stormwater to let it slowly percolate down to the aquifer. There are several miles of walking paths and lots of Florida wetland critters to see here. I spent the whole afternoon.
Some photos.
For those who don't know, I live in a converted campervan and travel around the country, posting photo diaries of places that I visit. I am currently wintering in Florida.
The park
One of the retention ponds
Blue Iris
Half-grown Alligator—about 4 feet long
Black Racer Snake
Bullfrog
Hooded Merganser. I don’t see these very often.
Fish Crow
Softshell Turtle
Dragonfly
Snowy Egret preens in a tree
Coot
Moorhen
Grackle. All I saw were males—I didn’t see any females.
Kestrel
Not your typical park Gray Squirrel—this is a Sherman’s Fox Squirrel
