PWB: Noble Fur Fridays - Kitties by the Fireplace [1]

How do you turn this thing on?
Cats tend to like sources of warmth, whether they be fireplaces, wood stoves, radiators, or sunbeams. Today’s diary will focus on Noble Fur’s connection with firewood, and will also include pics of my current kitty Narvik carrying on the tradition.
A short version of the “origin story” of Noble Fur: In 2015, while I was working in the Northwest, my neighbor found a young orphaned cat in a firewood pile next to my house. I had no intentions of adopting a cat due to my travel schedule. But once I met Noble Fur, resistance was futile.
Noble Fur enjoyed exploring firewood piles, probably because critters such as lizards and chipmunks would hide under the blocks of wood. I took lots of pictures of her in various wood piles.
Good for sharpening claws, too.

On Noble Fur’s first trip west in 2016, we spent the summer in a rented house in McCall, Idaho. Summers are usually fairly warm, but at 5,000 feet elevation warm days are not guaranteed. One July day, the rain poured all day long, and the temperatures stayed in the 40s. I got a nice fire going in the wood stove. Of course Noble Fur occupied my chair as soon as I got up.

Three years later, and ten miles to the west, we also had a wood stove available.
A good place to hang out on a chilly day.
Sometimes a big fire is even better!

And when there is no fire in the fireplace, there are alternatives.
This will do just fine.
I adopted Narvik in May, 2022. A month later, I took him to Idaho. He quickly found the warmest spot in the house.
He was tiny back then, but of course he didn’t stay that way.
At the cabin, there was another wood stove to enjoy.
The barrel stove is a simple design, but puts out a lot of heat.
At home, a few days ago.
Now it’s time to put out the fire. This video shows one of the heaviest rainfalls I’ve seen at my house.
