I’ll have a more detailed summary of the current and pending trans health care bans over the weekend (that’s the plan, at least), but we are now up to nine (soon to be ten) states with some kind of ban on providing surgical and/or hormonal treatment to minors for gender dysphoria.

x Kentucky becomes the 9th state to ban trans care For youth after a secret hearing with 6 minutes notice and House mics off.

One provision forces detransition on teens.

Gov Beshear will likely veto, but they can override.

Kentucky now joins Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Florida, Georgia (soon), Mississippi, South Dakota, Tennessee and Utah in banning such care.

In Kentucky, the state’s first queer Representative, Rep. Herron, was followed in the hearing today by a man who needs to beg for mercy from whatever God there is:

x Rep White cruelly stands and says, "This is a sissy bill. I voted yes but I wanted more teeth in it."

Want to know how much the Republicans in the Georgia legislature care? They don’t:

x Today, when I asked a colleague supporting SB140 about kids who need treatments banned by the bill, he said those folks can always go to another state. When I pointed out that we’re just keeping this legal for rich folks he goes “yeah that’s how most bills around here go.” — Rep. Ruwa Romman (@Ruwa4Georgia) March 16, 2023

I count eleven additional states with anti-trans health care legislation still pending where it may have a chance of passage (apologies for bizarro formatting here):

Florida (current ban is only administrative);

Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, Oklahoma, Texas, and West Virginia.

In other news…

Remember that bathroom/sleepover ban out of Arkansas I described a few days ago? It passed.

A school bathroom ban passed the House in Iowa, too. Track it here.
