I keep hearing about "woke" or "wokeness" or "woke culture". And truth be told, It seems to me various dirtbags (oh, I'm sorry, I misspelled "politician") have been using this as a criticism. So I decided to do a little searching online for an answer.

So...here we go.

Described by Merriam-Webster as “chiefly US slang”, the dictionary defines the word as: “Aware of and actively attentive to important facts and issues (especially issues of racial and social justice).”

So...being aware of socially relevant things that affect people's lives seems like a really good thing, right? So why the virulent opposition to being "woke"? I consider myself woke...I am aware of the news, what's going on with the courts, what's happening on the border, how certain asshats (shit, I misspelled "politician" again) are pushing anti woman, anti black, anti gay and trans, anti rational foreign policy, anti Ukraine aid, bank failure blamed on wokeness, and oh my lord, I could go on for an hour.

So why? How 'bout this:

“Woke (/ˈwoʊk/ WOHK) is an adjective derived from African-American Vernacular English (AAVE) meaning "alert to racial prejudice and discrimination".

Not gonna say anything else. Just gonna leave it for y'all to decide. I know where I stand.
