Settled in the dorm, word got around that I played chess. Half the guys had a set, and after a few friendly games, it was like people would just come up to me, asking to play. It's a funny thing about playing strangers, because if they've got any sort of game at all it's different -- and there was this one kid, always inviting me to play, usually it was early or late or something, but one day I had an hour between classes and said sure. He played slow. Eventually I had to leave for my next class, but he asked me to come back later so we could finish the game. I agreed, so we did. It seemed polite.
