This is outrageous and I am still paying on that light bill. Today I found out I was not the only one and why the biggest light bill ever when nothing changed, in fact I had used less power and bill was higher than anything in the summer. I had a 725.00 light bill for one month. I called everyone and utility companies really had no answers but I found out why it was so high when I scanned MSN news today.
Of the $9.5 million that has flowed into the Republican Party of Florida from electric utilities and their affiliated PACs since 2019, $2 million has come in in the past nine weeks, as DeSantis preps a widely anticipated run for the presidency as the main GOP primary opponent to former president Donald Trump. In particular, NextEra and Duke are the two biggest electric-company donors to DeSantis and the Florida GOP since 2019. Duke has donated $4 million to the Florida GOP since 2019, while NextEra has given more than $2.2 million to DeSantis and the Florida GOP, according to our analysis of state campaign finance reports.
Guess what Floridians, we are contributing to these republicans every time we pay our light bills.
Utility companies flooded Ron DeSantis’s campaign coffers with donations. Now, the Florida governor is allowing them to withhold information about widespread power shutoffs to their struggling customers.

November 2021, Florida’s Public Service Commission (PSC) issued a memorandum allowing electric utilities to stop disclosing their shutoff data. The memorandum, which reversed the commission’s September 2020 decision to collect the data to track the pandemic’s effects on utility customers, came after DeSantis stacked the board with his appointees. The move came less than a month after commission members approved the largest electric rate hike in Florida’s history, resulting in a 20 percent increase in costs to residential ratepayers.
Now it’s impossible to know how many customers have been disconnected from their electric utilities for being unable to pay their increasing power bills. NextEra — the parent company of Florida’s largest utility, Florida Power & Light — disconnected 738,000 Floridians in 2021 and 1.1 million Americans nationwide since 2020, according to a report from Bailout Watch last month. If that disconnection rate continued, noted the report, NextEra would have shut off 1.2 million customers in 2022. But we do not know the total, because the DeSantis-appointed Florida PSC allowed the company to hide the data.
He is absolutely starving people to death. He is also making people hurt in Florida heat or deep dives of 20 degrees in the winter. People who are elderly, have disabilities, depend on oxygen, cpap, in outrageous weather being drained of every dime they have are expected to sit in the dark.
I reported this to the Inspector general in DC when I got my light bill month before last I reported that the fees are not even explainable and people could not live with mortgage type electric bills. Our homeowners insurance is out the roof and he is busy making speeches and banning books.
This man is cruel. This man may or may not win a general election but can America afford the Florida man? Florida can’t. He is for the rich, by the rich and owns his own form of slavery down here. He is more power hungry than Trump but sleazy and even wants to control the power grid. The irony is that the poor fools who vote for him do not even know or aware that he is hiking their necessities to live without their knowledge. They voted for him. He doesn’t care if you are a republican or democrat, you will be charged like you are wealthy to pave his way to a presidential run.
It is time for the Dept, of Justice to look at this man and some legislators down here. I do not want to help him get money by just keeping the lights and water on. Florida has got to make a plan to stop this nonsense. First they have to know just how robbed they are .
Don’t say just get out of Florida. It has not always been this way, I honestly believe the Russian Oligarchs are in charge down here. People can’t just up and move. It is not possible for a lot of good people to just up and move.
I also believe this Florida man is being controlled by Putin. If this is what Yale and Harvard is graduating these days, I had rather folks I care about take in laundry and dig ditches ( which is a low paying but honest living) before getting this cruel with degrees from ivy league schools.
Trump, if you are listening, take note...Nothing would please me better than to see these two rats fighting in a corner. He is out Trumping Trump.
It is a clear case of robbing from the poor and giving to the stupid fascists.
