Since the DREAM Act was first introduced in 2001, agencies like ICE and U.S. Customs and Border Protection have greatly expanded, both in funding and capacity, to terrorize and abuse immigrant communities. In that same timeframe, millions of undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. as children have lived in constant fear of GOP-led attacks. In January 2023, nine states asked a federal judge to permanently end DACA, and all first-time applications for DACA are being blocked.
No one deserves to live their entire lives under constant fear of detention, deportation, and family separation, especially not migrant youth for whom the United States is the only home they've ever known. “Young people stuck in green-card limbo said they are constantly watching their backs, trying to avoid the police and missing out on some of the best parts of being a teenager. Some wondered if it might be simpler to stay undocumented,” The Marshall Project reported. But deportation for immigrant youth could mean being deported to a country that person knows nothing about.
Immigrants are here to stay, and the DREAM Act of 2023 would allow migrant youth who were brought to the U.S. as children to no longer have to live in fear over simply existing in this country. The DREAM Act of 2023 is smart, humane, and sensible immigration policy that gives immigrant youth the dignity and respect they deserve.
Sign and send if you agree: Immigrants are here to stay. Pass the Dream Act of 2023!
