Kitchen Table Kibitzing: Meet Aztec! [1]

Hello everyone! On Valentines Day my best friend/business partner purchased a third horse for our lesson program.



This is Aztec (nicknamed Cheeseburger), he is a 9 year old gelding. We think he is an Andalusian cross possibly with Azteca. He is a very good boy. I have very quickly fallen in love with him. I mean, look at him… can you blame me? I doubt it.

This last weekend it snowed at the barn! Very unusual weather for the Bay Area. Nevertheless it was gorgeous (aside from all of the damage to stalls).

I took Aztec for a ride in the snow. It was likely his first encounter with snow.

He didn’t seem to mind!

He was very open and willing to navigate through this new terrain and experience and was kind enough to allow me to accompany him through it.

Moving on. Stormfly has been progressing and relaxing! She is learning to stretch and engage her muscles properly. When we first got her she held her nose to her chest.

In this picture, Stormfly’s head is extremely ahead of the vertical. She would do this with and without contact to the bit.

And here, she is very behind the vertical as I mentioned earlier. Again, she did this on her own, with no contact to the bit. You can see her reins are loose.

And look at her now, a beautiful western pony. This ride was a huge accomplishment for us both. This picture documents her first time learning to stretch. She was so comfy.

And now she is almost always on the vertical.

We were told she is a Lusitano. However, she looks like a AQHA (American Quarter Horse)

Very majestic regardless.
