After World War II and until 9-11, American foreign policy was about as predictable as clockwork, independent of which party was in control domestically. This predictable nature helped others plan if they wanted to follow or not your lead.
Since 9-11, it has been flip a coin.
1- Bush and the neoconservatives, imperialistic adventurism.
2- Obama, cool pragmatism.
3- Trump, love of dictators, authoritarians and absolute monarchs.
4- Biden, return to the Cold War mentality.
5- Next up in 2025? Do you take the risk or batten down the hatches?
China, Russia and India going their own ways of MCGA, Viva the USSR and MIGA.
Europe with a few risk averse nations has put its eggs in the basket, I do hope we have made some contingency plans if the USR loonies get into power again.
Japan and South Korea pretty much the same, yet Taiwan should be reasonably nervous.
Australia and New Zealand, onboard, but with their fingers crossed so hard they have gone blue.
Africa, you know that country south of Yurup? -/s. You know, the one which the US has forgotten and France is desperately trying to run away from? The place that we asset stripped for so long? Now we threaten with various sanctions if they don’t toe the line. Oh, the chutzpah. Europe, basically supporting any old clown on the southern Mediterranean coast to stop economic migrants arriving [if they survive] by boat anywhere to the north. Meanwhile, China and Russia are having so much fun.
As for the women in Afghanistan, who? You know, the ones we promised so much, didn’t we? As for Iran, never heard of it, has it been in the news? But Saudi women are allowed to drive, so no punishment for a regime at the centre of fundamentalist Islamic terrorism and straight forward assassination. Let them eat sport!
Iran, the yes no nuclear hokey-cokey.
Fingers crossed for 2024/25? Eh?
Just a thought
