I didn't expect it to be unanimous. Why? [1]

You may or may not know that the Communist Party of China calls itself the “CPC”. And there is a pattern you’ll find on social media, where some people refer to the party as “CCP” while others say “CPC”. Seems like the folks on Daily Kos have just learned the word “tankie”, and they would probably use this word to describe the people in the “CPC” camp. But, there’s no official designation here, this is just a pattern you have to observe on social media, and you have to guess for yourself as to what’s happening.

This is really strange to me. Where did “CCP” come from? Why do people insist on using it? What is the difference between these two acronyms? I’m a person with a Chinese name, so unless someone can give a compelling answer, I'm compelled to interpret this as a micro-aggression. I don’t like that place, I’ll use the wrong name.

So if you search on Google to look for mentions of “CPC” within the last year (on Daily Kos), you get a handful of results. None of them is talking about China at all. One hit mentions the Congressional Progressive Caucus or something. There are few enough hits that you can examine them each individually.

But if you search Google and ask for “CPC” hits within the last year, you get a littany of hits. Most of them are discussing China.

Not ONE PERSON used “CPC” to refer to China. And, that’s why i am really curious to find the explanation. It can’t just be a coincidence.

I can’t help but imagine how silly it would look, if every CPC member in China started using “SUA” to refer to our country. How would we talk about it? We’d use terms like: propaganda, brainwashing, nationalism, etc.

WDYT? Just a coincidence? A way for people to broadcast what camp they’re in? Micro-aggression?
