It's not enough to go after elected Democratic men. Right-wing media also attacks their wives [1]

Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman is sworn in by Vice President Kamala Harris, alongside his wife, Gisele.
Unless you regularly subject yourself to the right-wing fever swamp, you may have missed this. Ever since Sen. John Fetterman handily disposed of supplement-pushing, Donald Trump-approved charlatan Mehmet Oz in Pennsylvania’s 2022 Senate race, a steady stream of bile has been directed by the right. It’s aimed not only at Fetterman himself, as you might expect—but rather, at his wife Gisele. It’s not clear what Gisele Fetterman specifically did to merit this torrent of abuse, but for Lachlan Murdoch’s highly paid propagandists, that question is clearly beside the point. For Fox’s older, white, and male conservative demographic, virulent misogyny is obviously the ticket to good ratings.
Women of color always make particularly appealing targets for the right, though simply being a woman is quite sufficient in most instances, particularly if the woman is a Democrat, or can be associated with a Democrat—say, her husband—whom their audience is already pre-disposed to hate.
In Sen. Fetterman’s case, conservative media have long spent their energies attacking him, seemingly unable to admit just how appallingly repulsive their own chosen candidate in 2022 actually was. But slanderously painting Fetterman as “brain-dead” (as the Washington Examiner did in February, and as Fox’s Tucker Carlson did during the run-up to the election) has evidently run its course.
So what’s the next logical step in the right’s continual campaign to capitalize on Fetterman’s medical problems? Attack his wife, of course.
