As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

Good Morning, friends… We made it to another Saturday! If you have read many of my previous diaries, then you know that I am a long time fan of Gene Roddenberry and his most famous creation, Star Trek. I can find good things to say about each and every entry into the franchise. Even my least favorite, Lower Decks, which brings the USS Titan, one of my favorite ships, to the small screen.
Earlier this week, I found an article that challenges a common assumption about Star Trek The Motion Picture. Specifically, that it is the worst of the silver screen offerings. The article posits a point of view that I have long held, the idea that The Motion picture is a very good Science Fiction film, just not a good action movie.
The Motion Picture brings the crew if the Enterprise back together ten years after the final episode of their third and final season, but instead of alien monsters, and phaser battles. the aging but still adventurous crew, face questions of humankind, and our role in an ever changing, ever growing universe.
These questions are posed over and over again by some of the best, most popular Science Fiction writers, and yet some how, when Star Trek tried to tackle the same questions, the movie in question becomes Vilified, not the least by people who claim to love Trek.
Is this perhaps a case of me seeing an old favorite through Rose tented glasses? Perhaps. after all, I will admit that the film makes some mistakes, not the least of which being the uniforms, but that doesn’t mean the story it tries to tell doesn’t have value. I’ll link the article that spurred on this train of thought down below. Feel free to give me your points of view.
You've been watching Star Trek The Motion Picture All Wrong
