Cold War images, Kennedy - Khrushchev

Most academics and established diplomatic spokespersons, who have spoken on the issue, appear to be convinced no matter the outcome of Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, a return to business as usual is the only possible response. Only societies directly involved in the conflict or share previous domination by Russia or the Soviet Union are demanding the Russia be exiled from worldly interaction and treated as the rouge it is.

Putin and his minions must be tried as common criminals who have expropriated the State of The Russian Federation in an organized fashion for criminal purposes and personal gain. They must be held accountable for damages to persons and property in Ukraine and The Russian Federation and made to pay compensation from the ill-gotten gains they have accumulated and protected under the umbrella of statehood. Finally, The Russian Federation must seek and gain proper admission to the UN and the Security Council seat it presently occupies must be declared ill-gotten and open for reassignment by UN member states.

This article in AlJazeera is a typical example of the argument presented by the proponents of business as usual: Can EU-Russia relations be repaired post-Putin?, by Dimitar Bechev Visiting Scholar at Carnegie Europe
