Trump campaign paid outside group before Jan. 6 to find election fraud: They found none [1]

The group’s work was performed in the last few weeks of 2020. It’s not clear who if anyone the Trump campaign shared the results with.
“They looked at everything: change of addresses, illegal immigrants, ballot harvesting, people voting twice, machines being tampered with, ballots that were sent to vacant addresses that were returned and voted,” said a person familiar with the work who, like others, spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe private research and meetings. “Literally anything you could think of. Voter turnout anomalies, date of birth anomalies, whether dead people voted. If there was anything under the sun that could be thought of, they looked at it.”
But in the end, it didn’t matter, because it wasn’t the result they were looking for.
Senior officials from Berkeley Research Group briefed Trump, former chief of staff Mark Meadows and others on the findings in a December 2020 conference call, people familiar with the matter said. Meadows showed skepticism of the findings and continued to maintain that Trump won. Trump also continued to say he won the election. The call grew contentious, people with knowledge of the meeting said.
So, what did Trump and his sycophants do? Did they back off on their lie? No, they doubled down on it. They summoned thousands of their ugly, vicious hordes of so-called “patriots” to attack the Capitol and Congress, trashing our most sacred institutions, killing people, planting bombs, and destroying property. And they set up millions of Republican voters, all just chomping at the bit and more than happy to believe that lie, to be willingly suckered into it. Because that was always the plan.
Knowing the whole time that it was all a complete lie.
And then, what did 147 Republican members of Congress do? They voted to validate the lie. The fact that they were betraying their country, blithely voting to disenfranchise and negate millions of Americans’ lawful votes, was barely an afterthought, if it even entered their minds.
Most of them, unfortunately, are still in office.
