Downtown St Augustine is packed with historical old buildings. The entire section of town is listed as a National Historic Site.

Some photos.

For those who don't know, I live in a converted campervan and travel around the country, posting photo diaries of places that I visit. I am currently wintering in St Augustine, Florida.

The Gate is all that remains of the defensive wall that once surrounded the town

The Old Cemetery lies just outside the city wall

The primary historic street is now pedestrian-only

The oldest wooden schoolhouse in the US, built in 1702

The Alvero family bought this property in 1712 and built this house in 1749, living in it till 1804. It was restored in 1979.

The Rodrigues-Avero-Sanchez House was built sometime before 1761, during the First Spanish period

The Oliveros House was built in 1798 by sailor Sebastian Oliveros

The Villalonga House was built in 1815 by Bartolome Villalonga and reconstructed in 1976

The Sanchez House. Built in 1809 by Francis Xavier Sanchez from Charleston SC.

Pena-Peck House. Built around 1750, it was occupied by the Spanish Colonial Treasurer and the British Governor before being purchased in 1837 by Dr Seth Peck.

Plaza de la Constitution. Like all Spanish towns, St Augustine was laid out with a public plaza in the center.

The Bridge of Lions

Henry Flagler’s Ponce de Leon Hotel was one of his luxury destinations for northern tourists
