One of our regular diarists, minacat, will be spending the next few weeks recovering from surgery. I’ve been thinking about doing a series about the beloved Noble Fur, and this is a good opportunity.
For those of you who are new to the PWB Peeps diaries, Noble Fur was my constant companion from 2015 to 2021. She showed up in my Georgia yard as an orphaned five-month-old kitten. I wasn’t even home at the time; I was doing forestry work in Washington. Upon my arrival back home, my neighbor introduced me to the sweet young kitty. She quickly made herself at home.
Naming a cat can be a challenge. I wanted one that was unusual, and I selected a name that was a variation on one of my favorite western tree species, the noble fir. She was indeed a noble kitty, carrying herself with great elegance and confidence.

Noble Fur quickly became one of the favorite felines of Daily Kos. She was highly photogenic, and her sweet personality showed in the pictures. The summer after she adopted me, I took her on the first cross country trip, documented in this diary:
Noble Fur, Road Warrior, Part 1
Many more diaries followed. I made sure to carry a camera on our walks and rest breaks. As a result, I have hundreds of pictures that have never been posted online. This diary, and the ones to come, will include many of the pics that have been hidden away in my archives (some of the pics in today’s diary were previously published).
I also have a few videos that have never been shared, including this one where Noble Fur tries to locate some critter under a huckleberry bush, and only comes up with a pine cone.
The diaries won’t necessarily follow any chronological order. Today’s diary is a selection of pictures that I took in October 2016 as we traveled from Washington to Georgia at the end of my summer of forestry work in the Northwest.

There are many more pictures to be shared in upcoming diaries. Stay tuned!
