8th SD candidate Jodi Habush Sinykin has launched two new TV ads, including one that contrasts her position on abortion with that of potential GOP rival Janel Brandtjen.

In that spot, several women describe Brandtjen, a state rep from Menomonee Falls, as “too conservative” and “the most conservative you can be when it comes to abortion.” Brandtjen faces a three-way GOP primary Feb. 21, and some Dems believe running against her would improve their chances of winning the suburban Milwaukee seat.

Habush Sinykin’s campaign said the ads are running on broadcast and cable TV in Milwaukee as well as on digital platforms. Her campaign described it as a “significant six-figure buy,” but didn’t provide other details.

In the ad that mentions Brandtjen, the women featured say the lawmaker sponsored a bill to defund Planned Parenthood and note Pro-Life Wisconsin named her legislator of the year. They then say Habush Sinykin will fight to restore Wisconsin women’s right to choose.

“Jodi knows our most personal decisions should never be in the hands of politicians,” one woman says while others call her “the leader we need.”

The second ad from Habush Sinykin is a bio spot that highlights her family’s textile company, saying “we chose to stay” as other factories left Wisconsin. Habush Sinykin says she’ll “fight to keep our communities safe with a strong police force and to restore a woman’s right to choose.”

The Habush Sinykin ads come as two Washington, D.C.-based groups have filed reports with the state Ethics Commission detailing independent expenditures to boost GOP state Rep. Dan Knodl in the race or to oppose Brandtjen.

The Republican State Leadership Committee Inc. has spent $83,036 on mail and another $70,000 on TV production and placement supporting Knodl.

Meanwhile, the DC-based Americans Keeping Country First reported spending $55,100 for online ads opposed to Brandtjen.

Americans Keeping Country First was created to defend members of Congress who voted to impeach former President Trump after Jan. 6, 2021. The narrator in its spot calls Brandtjen inept, ineffective and unqualified before declaring her an embarrassment.
