There is a bleak time of the year here in Mississippi where there is little noise or movement outdoors. It can be alarming when one is used to subtle or continuous activity. The term Dead of Winter comes to mind. I think you’ll see from the video that this is the case until the rains begin. Water is the “ Giver of Life “ and the film will show how it brings new beginnings to this tiny segment of our area.

The following charts are found on the web site: weatherspark.com. I have isolated the time period during Hay seed’s video. You will notice the rise in the water level as the video continues.

The total amount of rain in Dec. 2021 equals 5 inches (approximately)

The total amount of rain in Jan. 2022 equals 8 inches (approximately)

I grabbed some “google” maps to show the location of Hay seed’s puddle. These images will show the total area and how water is diverted toward (then beyond) his tiny depressed area.

NOTE: Hay seed created this area to entice ducks and other wildlife into a secure environment. He has had some success.

A closer look

The property is located within a less populated section of our county known as, “The Big W”. Hundreds of acres are under timber management and leased by hunting clubs. Getting a piece of property for private use is somewhat difficult. Hay seed is one of the lucky few to have his bit of heaven there.

Now to the video. Look for the rise in the puddle level. It happens at the blink of an eye.

Just for prosperity, I will include a different video of the same camera and puddle with other creatures. This film will show the diversity of birds that visit Hay seed’s Eden over other months of 2021.

Sorry to announce that I have no Groundhog images to share today. The sun is hidden for most of us today, may the predictions of an early Spring come true.
