Many contributions to the Daily Kos do not get to the point. The gist of an article should best be summarized in the first paragraph — or even the first sentence. The headline should be relevant to the meat of the article, and not just be some eye-catching irrelevance.

I find that the headlines often have little or no bearing to the subject of the article, so I don’t know whether to click on them or not. I find that many articles use acronyms (like “DK”!) or outside references that mean nothing to me and aren’t defined in the article at all.* I urge every contributor to review guides to journalistic style to improve their contributions.

I will not point out articles that I find to be “offenders” as I have no desire to single out any contributor. We all fall short of perfection — I know I do — and I don’t care to criticize anyone for that. I appreciate the contributions all you contributors make to the Daily Kos, but PLEASE could you at least attempt to follow a logical journalistic style. You’re not alone if you fail at this because even the NY Times tends to turn every news story into a feature magazine article — which take much longer to digest.
