Name the New Republican Party [1]

The Copperheads is an apt historical name for today's silent Republicans

If you read yesterday’s commentary, and hopefully you agree, The Republican Party, or should I say the remaining rational Republicans need a new name. So what should that name be?

One wonders how a political party in the past ever named themselves the Copperheads. Naming a political party after a poisonous snake hardly seems like a marketable product. The No-Nothings, another political party from our past, and another loser, though I suggest either of these names would be suitable for a political party whose members are Marjorie Taylor Greene, Lauren Boebert, Paul Gosar and their like.

So what would we name a political party, and what should the symbol be for politicians like Rusty Bowers, Mitt Romney, Pat Toomey, John McCain: People whom we might disagree with on issues, but whom we trust with safeguarding our Constitution.

How did Democrats decide a Donkey also known as a Jackass, a breed of animal unable to reproduce, should be their iconic animal representation? And while the Republicans chose an elephant, an animal that never forgets, I am certain someday Republicans will like to forget this era of their history. And sadly, Elephants are bordering on extinction. They consume too much, and their lands are disappearing as humans encroach. More on symbolic animals next week, but for now, let’s choose a name.
