Nothing original from me, Just trying to highlight the most recent news of Israel’s new Far-right coalition government under Netanyahu, from Juan Cole, the distinguished Professor of History at Univ. of Michigan and dedicated blogger. Sorry, attempts to pull up a picture of Netanyahu from DK image library seem to be totally failing.
The link is to his latest column from 1-27-23, which takes an overview of Netanyahu’s long-term plans for subjugating Palestinians, while maneuvering with the “Abraham coalition” of Arab states to create new image and status for Israel as a modern, hi-tech outpost of hard and soft power that can deny Palestinian aspirations forever. The many demonstrations against Netanyahu’s new coalition of far-right parties are getting some notice in the American press, Cole brings up several new details that paint a picture of failures and severe obstacles facing the right-wing coalition’s plans.
To summarize greatly, foreign investors are beginning to pull out of Israel, as the new coalition’s desire to have the Knesset over-rule Supreme Court scares investors with the possibility of political favoritism in business disputes that inevitably arise with new investment. Furthermore, since Netanyahu claims that his plans will result in such economic growth that Palestinians will not need political rights, a significant rise of the number of Israelis living in poverty shows that Netanyahu’s projects are failing both Israelis and Palestinians
Furthermore, Israel’s recent ruthless attacks on Palestinians suspected of resistance and political plans to deny Palestinians rights and citizenship forever into the future, has led the Palestinian Authority to announce that it is ceasing all security cooperation with Israeli authorities, which has been significant in holding violence down in the past.
All in all, a very good short read, and Professor Cole’s daily updates on all Mideast issues with a strong focus of climate change issues and positive news on new energy sources to replace petroleum and other fossil fuels is a very highly recommended news source to balance and enhance mainstream press coverage of these issues.
“Juan Cole is the founder and chief editor of Informed Comment. He is Richard P. Mitchell Professor of History at the University of Michigan He is author of, among many other books, Muhammad: Prophet of Peace amid the Clash of Empires and The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam. Follow him on Twitter at @jricole or the Informed Comment Facebook Page.”
I am happy to be a cheerleader working in Juan’s footsteps, my own honors degree in History has resulted in my own well-established, deeply longform, book-length, no clickbait website, getting lots of global traffic. My lead article tries to get into how individuals come together in communities and societies, using their thoughts and actions to create what we know as human history.
