One of the enduring horrors of the Jan 6th insurrection was its toll on lives. Specifically, the lives of police officers entrusted to protect the lawmakers in the Capitol.

Five of them died and another 140 were wounded in that insurrection that shook democracy to its core. Amongst the victims, Brian Sicknick, who was incapacitated for about 20 minutes by one of the rioters using a chemical, later discovered to be pepper spray. Sicknick died a day later, attributed at first to injuries sustained during the riot but then changed by the Washington DC medical examiner to natural causes due to multiple strokes suffered during the confrontation with the mob. Whatever, the cause might be. There should be no confusion:

Brian Sicknick died as a result of the Jan 6th insurrection. Four more police officers took their own lives. They would have been alive and well if we had not had half the country deranged by the false accusations of a stolen election by a charlatan and amplified by back stabbing manipulative traitors in Congress pretending to be law and order but were Trojan horses for the insurrectionists.

The aftermath was no less severe as another demoralized 130 police officers left, hollowing out the service.

Today, the pepper spray perpetrator was sentenced to nearly 7 years in prison. He has a name. Justin Khater. He had already served 22 months after pleading guilty to two counts of felony.

In a letter to U.S. District Judge Thomas Hogan included with the government’s filing this week, Sicknick’s mother, Gladys Sicknick, addressed Khater directly, saying he has been “center stage in our recurring nightmare.”
