This will be a short diary.
A very good friend of mine is in dire need of financial help. It’s help that I can’t provide, as I’m tight myself these days, as a struggling writer. His father, whom he lived with, recently passed away from Alzheimer’s, right after he was laid off from his position at his newspaper. He was a proofreader and this particular paper is apparently adopting software for the job and as such, let go of three of their proofers; he was one of them and it was through no fault of his own. This is, unfortunately, becoming a common occurrence with proofreaders and editors. He’s looking for a new job - but is currently 3 full months behind on his father’s mortgage payments (basically about $1400 behind, from what he told me, which is a really tough situation), which has him pretty terrified and as a 34-year-old man, he’s subsisting on very little and it’s all he can do to keep the wolves from the door. I know he went without dinner two nights ago just so he could feed his dad’s two cats.
He’s one of the good ones in the world is all I can say about him. He goes out of his way to help anyone; I’ve never heard him complain; he took care of his father for two years before he passed from Alzheimer’s, moving in with him and ending his own lease to do it. He gave up everything for his dad, just so he could be there for him. He helped me get my first real writing job, out of college. But he’s in a deadly serious bind and I know he’s afraid to ask anyone for the help he needs right now, as well — that’s who he is.
I know everyone has their own issues to deal with and that every penny counts these days. So please forgive me for humbly asking the community if you’re able to do anything at all for him. He won’t see this or know about it, as he’d be embarrassed, so — it’s between “us”, basically. I considered starting a GoFundMe, but as it could take a long time before he was able to receive anything or “meet a goal”, considering how urgent his situation is, it seemed to me that a more immediate thing to do was to just put his PayPal here and if a few people were even able to do anything at all (literally anything would amazing), it would do a world of good. I just thought that there may be a few Kossacks here who may be able to help him a little as I’m just unable to right now. He deserves it so much.
His PayPal is a Business account, so it doesn’t accept Friends & Family, only Goods & Services (I found this out when I helped him a little, myself about 3 months ago) — so if anyone is able to send him anything, that would be the way:
[email protected]
If this is at all inappropriate, again, please forgive me. I just thought it might help him and that it would be a beautiful surprise for him.
Thanks, everybody. For even just reading this, thanks.
