In 2016 Hillary Clinton described half of the Republican party as “a basket of deplorables.” Clinton’s candid assessment was criticized by some as impolite, but Republican words and actions since then have shown her to be too generous by half.

These days, “A basket of deplorables” is a representative term for almost everyone in the GOP.

Most recent example? Newly elected George Santos—an everyman Republican—who lies about everything.

To be sure, Santos is standing on the shoulders of giants such as Donald Trump, Mitch McConnell, Steve Bannon, Kevin McCarthy, Rudy Giuliani and Ted Bundy (The notorious serial killer was a documented up and comer in Republican politics when he was not kidnapping, raping and murdering young women.)

Too mean? Not mean enough, I think. There’s no reason for Democrats and other real Americans to pussycat around monstrous Republicans. They are bent on our destruction.

Which important things Santos has lied about that we know of?

His name Who knows? His Web site says it’s George Anthony Devolder Santos. Yesterday’s Guardian story was headlined:‘We don’t know his real name’: George Santos’s unravelling web of lies … ‘Nobody even knows who this guy is,’ critics say, but he was still awarded with House panel assignments – showing the party ‘stands for nothing.’

GoFund Me fraud Posing as Anthony Devolder on Facebook, Santos has been accused of bamboozling two New Jersey military veterans by creating a GoFundMe for their dying dog’s medical care and then stealing the $3,00 that was raised.

When confronted as a manipulative, opportunistic, larcenist Santos told CNN “I have dozens of people reaching out to me in support sharing their stories about their dogs and cats that I help save and rescue.” None of these “supporters” have been identified nor come forward.

Educational bona fides Santos said in his campaign that he graduated from Baruch College. The college says that didn’t happen.

Employment record Santos said frequently over the course of his campaign that he had extensive experience working for Goldman Sachs and CitiCorp. The financial institutions both said Santos did not work for them.

Stealing Money in Brazil The Rio de Janeiro prosecutor’s office reported that investigating into Santos' alleged use of a stolen checkbook to make purchases of almost $700 under a false name in 2008 was suspended because his whereabouts were unknown. Now that his address is known, the Brazilian prosecutors intend to make a formal request to the U.S. Justice Department to notify him of the fraud charges.

Despite his dishonest behavior, Santos refuses to resign, citing some bland fiction about being committed to serving the people who elected him. Like so many of his lying, cheating, stealing predecessor Republicans, Santos ignores the character, qualifications and duties of his office, maintaining a felonious arrogance by the Grand Old Party that is unmistakably repugnant to the principles our nation was founded upon.
