According to MAC:

“From the makers of Shrek, Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda, How to Train Your Dragon and Trolls, comes an extraordinary exhibition celebrating over 25 years of DreamWorks Animation.”

According to the display:

“Character maquettes are hand-crafted, clay or moulded plaster sculptures, made during the production phase of DreamWorks Animation films. Sometimes maquettes are produced during the character development process to help find the character’s look. Usually, however, they are used as a character’s real-world counterpart; they are unique objects that make solid the hand-drawn or Computer Generated forms that otherwise only exist on paper or as computer data.”

The display also reports:

“They provide a common reference point for different animators working on the same character, allowing artists to study a character’s proportions from different views or illustrating the way a certain feature might cast a shadow.”
