Greetings to 2023, I almost didn’t make it! For those of you who didn’t know where I disappeared to, I will try to fill you in.
December 29th started out like a normal day, but by 9am something felt different, chest pain and indigestion that felt unusually strong. It didn’t take me too long to figure out what it was, I was having a heart attack!
My first call was to my daughter, she lived about 15 minutes away, I told her to get here quickly, she said “Did you call 911?” I said they are next. So I hung up with her and called 911 dispatch, gave them my address and told them I was having heart problems. Then I waited, low and behold, my daughter arrived right behind the ambulance and the mercy flight landed near the house all at the same time.
The paramedics went right to work on me, making sure that I was getting enough air and my heart rate was as stable as they could get it and preparing me for transport. I was given the option of the ambulance or the mercy flight to get to the hospital. I was concerned about the ambulance getting stuck in the muddy driveway, so I went with the helicopter. I would rather fly and they did bring the helicopter out, I didn’t want to waste the ride,
Bless the flight crew, they got me on a gurney, got me the helicopter, strapped me in, put a helmet on my head, to protect my hearing and let me talk to the crew, and we were off. It was a 25 mile trip to the hospital and over way to soon. This was my fifth helicopter flight and the first one that I got to land in!
I remember the flight and landing and I remember getting rolled into the emergency room all on December 29th and my next memory was waking up on January 8th. I remember nothing about the time in between. That is a good thing for sure. Turns out that I had a minor heart attack and the doctor couldn't figure out why it wasn't a widow maker. They did a quadruple bypass on my heart and gave me a 10% chance of survival. Well, I beat the odds.
I finally got out of ICU on January 16th and into the rehab unit where I am tonight, working to get home. I most likely won’t be online when this publishes either, comments are still difficult to make unless I’m sitting in the dining area. Just know that I have beat the odds and am recovering. All of you are in my thoughts. Be safe, my friends!
Appendium: I just learned that I get to go “home” today. I will be living with my daughter for a few weeks while the bone heals.
Who is talking to who?SPOILER WARNING: A late night gathering for non-serious palaver that does not speak of that night's show. Posting a spoiler will get you brollywhacked. You don't want that to happen to you.
