How Many Pictures Does a Diary Need? [1]

I’m purposely NOT including a picture with this quick, not-news-worthy diary. If I’m the only one who finds it very strange that every featured diary is preceded by two identical copies of the same identical photo, I’ll shut up and go away. Is there a reason for this ? Is this an element of attractive graphic design that I have just missed, probably because no other publication I’ve ever read has seen the need to double up pictures right on top of each other, with identical captions repeated also?

My check came In, so when I get to the bank later I will donate $20 to DK and I will try to do that 4 times a year, similar to an automatic $6 a month (I just prefer to keep control of the timing).

I do really like DK, I have been a news junkie since 1958 and I like to read a lot, I have been using the Kos/main web address to get the older format that I preferred, but the recent format changes seem to have really degraded that experience.

Maybe I will try to learn to like the new format, yet frankly the varied contributions from readers are a big part of DK’s appeal to me and I like seeing them in the top of the diary, not having to search for them. Also, it seems that sometimes your staff writers are _too_ committed to the prejudices of our side of things, giving us too many unnecessary opinion comments when I’m looking for more details on a particular Senator’s position or the exact words that some reactionary is spouting.

I do like DK, I want to like DK, I come here several times a day, and I want many others to join me in contributing actual money to DK. Constant pop-ups alerting us to other diaries — which we will easily find by ourselves with a little browsing, the fund-raising appeals that do not include financial details to help us understand just how dire it is that you’re contemplating laying-off a significant portion of staff, and generally making the format less friendly and less community-oriented, these sorts of things seem to be bringing tiny bits of questioning and wondering if you like me as much as I like you, into our relationship. I’d like to avoid those kinds of emotions, can I get any reciprocation from DK?
