My loans were forgiven through PSLF! [1]

There weren't any good pictures in the library, so I uploaded this from my letter. ^_^

I had an extremely positive, welcome surprise waiting for me when I got home — a letter from the current FSA servicer stating that they had reviewed my repayments and had confirmed that I qualified for loan forgiveness under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program!



I actually didn’t see the letter at first. What caught my eye were the two envelopes from the Department of the Treasury with refund checks inside. When I opened the envelopes and looked at the stub, it said “Department of Education”. I kind of guessed what it must be but I couldn’t contain my growing excitement and wanted to see the proof.

I looked through the rest of the stuff in the mail and found the envelope from the FSA servicer, opening it right then and there, and sure enough, got confirmation of roughly $60,000 forgiven due to over 10 years of working in jobs which qualified under the requirements. Though I didn’t actually realize my first one qualified until I applied for PSLF last year, hoping against hope that the waiver would cover my previous employer, and then finding out that it didn’t need to because even though it was a private school, it still counted as a non-profit.

Needless to say, I am extremely happy right now. It’s not every decade that something like this happens! And even though the ongoing payment pause meant I wasn’t having to make payments anyway, this means that I won’t have to worry about them coming back.

I wish everyone else the best of luck in their own efforts in getting their own loans forgiven! Whether it’s through the student aid forgiveness Biden announced, or through PSLF, or through other programs, I want everyone who has student loans to be able to get a letter like this and feel their heart soaring with joy. ^_^
