My daughter had two scientists as her parents. She was Gifted and Talented in Math and Science in High School. Before she went to university, she told me “Mom, I am not going to be a scientist, I want to be a costume designer for The Theater. I told her “Ivania, you do what makes you happy, you go and pursue your dreams. whatever they are”. So, now, to make the story short, after getting an MS in Theater from Maryland State University she has become a sought-after costume designer for The Theater in DC, Maryland, etc. She has designed costumes for The Kennedy Center, Wooley Mammoth, Arena Stage, etc.
OK, what does it have to do with Henrietta Leavitt? She was recommended to go to Sarasota, Florida and design the costumes for the play “Silent Sky”. It is about Henrietta’s life. How she had to overcome misogynism and make amazing discoveries. So, that is how my daughter is so excited about this play, because science never left her. She never left science; she gave it the artistic angle.
If you live in Sarasota, why not go see the play? The theater is Asolo Repertory Theater. My daughter is Ivania Stack if you love the Theater and would like to know more about her career in DC.
