I have read a lot about the Republican House. It cannot do anything significant, but will be loud and brash. Somehow it reminds me of people going to Carnival in Rio except it will probably turn into a sci-fi thriller with McCarthy in the Vincent Price role. Expect to learn a lot about Hunter’s brief case.
Truth be told there could be some hopes of what he could do with his father’s name. Perhaps even he might have gotten somewhere with it. But will be conjecture, after all every son hopes for a boost from dad, but would he have gotten any more than good wishes and a hopeful pat on back. We all hope our sons will do well, but that is not proof that dad would do anything remotely improper to aid his son. The fluff of Hillary’s emails but not even an indiscretion. Will turn out to belike Billy Beer and flat at that.
After the theater we will get around to governance things like budgets, social security and Medicare. Threats of holding up programs that could really hurt. Here I think that McCarthy will have trouble with his troops. There will be a few who have the sense to defect and pass necessary legislation when push comes to shove (slightly different phrase came to mind about excrement and fans). Refusal to continue programs many voters in your base are in favor of is political suicide – granted they know the odds are against them in presidential race, but jump off a cliff after leader McCarthy?
We already watched what happens when you play with fire like the GOP did with Roe. But they were shockingly dense there after the Kansas vote which should have been a Slow Curve Ahead sign for them. But then they are the party who does not like education. One thing for someone who is odd son favorite to win reelection, but another thing if you face a contest. Far right will slow things down and will probably cost the GOP moderates heavily anyway.
The race that caught my eye was Lauren Boebert. I made a lots joke about her and Green, but it was almost like breakup of Abbott and Costello. When McCarthy puts his colleagues’ toes into the fire, some will be smart enough not to get burnt. To me the question for Republicans in Congress is not if Hunter’s briefcase is made of leather or Naugahyde; it will be who will drink the Kool-Aid with McCarthy.
