Why did Garland Punt the Football to Jack Smith? [1]

None but a handful of people know why AG Garland punted the football to Jack Smith. The AG still has to approve any indictments Smith may come up with.
Why No Indictments?
Differing theories abound. One theory suggests it was for further delaying purposes as Garland was out of excuses and in any case has lost a lot of credibility.
Another suggests the politics of the indictments as understood by the Democratic leadership as well as Biden indicate delay is preferable, and Garland is only too happy to agree. Some think they fear the massive fallout and MAGAnite trouble even a weakened Trump will most certainly cause.
The semi-official reason given, if we take it at face value, is that Jack Smith puts a non-partisan face on any indictments and is an excellent and aggressive prosecutor. It also tends to shield indictments from Republican House interference. The latter reasoning is, on the surface, very plausible. We will soon discover it that’s true.
I can’t help but suspect there is more to it than the above possible explanations. The Republicans are extremely well financed, as always. There is plenty of support in high circles for a fascist take over. Perhaps the greatest danger that delay is causing is that the plotters are free and are acting as if they have no fears or regrets. Certainly, Biden and the leadership knows this and the dangers inherent in not acting decisively.
Can a National Clown Show Keep Secrets?

I have suspicions that much more is going on, on both sides, but admittedly no hard facts. I once thought the next coup would be better prepared and planned.
Now I’m not so sure that a group as demonstrably contentious as this collection of criminal misfits can manage to keep their plans from being discovered. In this age of technology, the walls have elephant ears.
Surely Biden knows there is a risk of another coup. Fascists have given up membership in the human race. The possibility therefore exists that Biden is actually waiting for them to make an unexpected type of move, knows their plans and can likely stop them dead in their tracks if they try anything. Such an attempt is not an impossible one.
A Slow-Motion Coup?
The newest smiling phony face of the Republican House.
What may be more likely, and well within their limited abilities, is a slow-motion-type coup by the new House aimed at lies stimulating a real or manufactured crisis.
However, I suspect they may not always be able to find voting majorities on their attempts to tear down America by launching repeated and outrageous attacks against Biden and other sitting Democrats and democracy itself. In the same way Democrats ran into trouble with Sinema and Manchin, the House may find some Republican reps hesitant to go as far as more extreme fascist cliques want to go.
And with only a slim majority, if they lose two reps, which is very possible, that’s their 4-seat majority! One is already on the chopping block, others face indictments. I forget who first said this, but Republicans always can be counted on to politically overreach and overplay their hand.
I also think Biden can render them functionally ineffective, along with their own amply demonstrated incompetence.
