Photo Diary: Tampa Bay Automobile Museum [1]

This museum comes from the private automobile collection of one of the local businessmen. Most of the cars come from Europe. There are around 80 of them altogether, and about 15 of them are the only surviving examples of their kind. All of them are in running condition.

Some photos from a visit.

For those who don't know, I live in a converted campervan and travel around the country, posting photo diaries of places that I visit. I am currently wintering in Florida.

1927 Avions Voisin C7 Chastoness. Voisin was a French airplane manufacturer that got into the auto business.

1938 Panhard Dynamic. From France.

1913 Stearns-Knight SK6. Made in Cleveland. Less than 800 were made, and this is the only surviving one.

1943 Kubelwagen Type 82. Designed by Porsche, it was the German WW2 equivalent of the American Jeep.

1917 Owen Magnetic Model O-36. A gas/electric hybrid made in the USA.

1922 Milburn 27L. Electric car made in the US.

1967 Tatra 603. A luxury car produced in Czechoslovakia, mostly for Communist Party bigwigs in the Soviet Bloc.

Citroen Sahara. Almost 700 of these were made by the French company Citroen during the 1960s—they were designed for use in North Africa. It has two engines and two gearboxes.

1929 Ford Model A. During WW2 it was converted to run on a wood-burning engine.

1936 Mercedes Benz 130H. A failed German attempt at a cheap “people’s car”.

1968 Ford Zephyr. An experimental 4-wheel drive design, the only customer was the British Police, who ordered 22 of them. Only two remain.
