Good morning, Newdists! The stars are in our eyes this morning, so grab a cuppa and a nosh and join us, please!

All are welcome to join the fun, the silliness, the conversations. If you don’t know...just ask! Some things really do require a bit of explanation. There will be a few surprises along the way, all good ones, we hope. We are here to keep building the Daily Kos Community. We post Mon-Sun at 10:30 a.m. Eastern. Pie fights will be met with outrageous ridicule and insults. Trolls will be incinerated and served at the next group BBQ. As briquettes.

Why do we have starts in our eyes this morning?Coming up Thursday night into Friday morning:

It’s been 50,000 years since its last appearance in our skies, and frankly that year was a bit of a blur for me. We had just discovered fermented fruit and well….y’know. This time, though…..let’s keep an eye out for it!

In fact, at 11:00 p.m. EST on Jan. 12 (0400 GMT on Jan. 13), the comet will make its closest approach to the sun, known as perihelion. During this time, skywatchers might be able to observe the comet with the naked eye, if conditions are right, you should be able to find it with binoculars or a telescope. Even if you don't have the right conditions or optics to spot C/2022 E3 ZTF, you can watch a free live webcast courtesy of the Virtual Telescope Project via its website (opens in new tab) or its YouTube channel (opens in new tab).

What would you like to talk about this morning?
