Daniel Brandenburg and Zhangbu Xu at the STAR detector of the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) at the Brookhaven National Lab.
Physicists have discovered a completely new type of quantum entanglement
Using the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider at the Brookhaven National Laboratory.
Yes, the RHIC at the BNL if you prefer acronyms
To streamline the process of getting to the rest of the story.
So they fired up the old RHIC at the BNL
And created some entangled positive and negative pions
With interference patterns that were synchronized
Yet remaining distinguishable particles, “Hooray for Science!”.
If you don’t know much about quantum entanglement
Here is a quick refresher
Einstein called it “spooky action at a distance”
The sort of thing scientists love to observe and measure.
My qualifications to comment on such discoveries
I can outline in a jiffy.
I got a passing grade in high school physics class
Fifty years ago (my background's a little iffy).
Explaining science to others
Doesn’t take a Ph.D.
And almost anyone can write a poem,
As made evident by my poetry.
This discovery of the entanglement of dissimilar particles
May not seem to be such a big hairy deal.
Yet the advancement of science is incremental
And this one could have far reaching implications, I feel.
