In late November 2022, Isaiah Kofie answered the door to his Aurora, Colorado apartment who he shares with his wife and four children.
It was a delivery that he wasn’t expecting.
With men there to properly assemble it, at the door was a beautiful baby grand piano, and he was told it was bought and paid for and where would you like it?
Mused Isaiah, “All for free. Who does that?
This story began a year and a half ago, when in the blink of an eye, he discovered that his then nine year old son was a savant.
Jude Nyame Yie Kofie was born prematurely and with very low blood levels.
He had a hole in his heart and had multiple surgeries to keep him alive, followed by having a feeding tube inserted in his stomach until he was eight.
And then Jude was diagnosed with autism.
So that day Isaiah heard beautiful music coming from the basement, where he knew his son was playing.
He didn’t remember a radio there, so where could the music be coming from?
"I was here watching the news when I heard him play something. So I grabbed my phone, went down there, and was like, 'Dude, play that again.'"
And so he did.
Please note that Jude has never taken a single music lesson and wasn’t allowed on the computer unsupervised.
So there he was on a small, older electric piano.
It was as if he had been playing for years.
Within a year, Jude became the lead keyboardist at the church his family worshiped.
