After 13 years on Twitter, I confess that I still love it. It’s exciting and totally addictive. I do not, of course, like the new direction that Musk has allowed Twitter to take. During my years on Twitter, I never noticed accounts that were offering to sell/trade child-sex-abuse materials, but then I wasn’t looking for that, and may not have known what I was looking at when I saw it.

NBC tech reporters just published a report that, despite Musk’s claims that “eliminating child exploitation” would be his #1 priority, accounts are still offering to sell/trade child-sex porn materials….seemingly with no repercussions. If an account is suspended or banned, it just makes a new account and comes back making the same offers. These people even have their own hashtags, coded signals, code words.

Musk reduced his Trust and Safety (Child Safety) group at least by half through lay-offs & reassignments. While some technology has been developed to help detect these accounts, the human touch through surveillance is what is needed, but Musk doesn’t seem anxious to hire the humans necessary to surveil this activity. Anyhoo, I was disappointed to read this NBC report, that Twitter has a dark, evil underbelly that its owner doesn’t seem too perturbed about.
