The Magna Carta didn't last long
Jonathan Turley (Law Professor at GWU) believes Congress has got to change. He believes the ascension of Kevin McCarthy, with all the compromises required, is a Magna Carta moment. But the lawyer perhaps does not know his history.
Within months of signing the Magna Carta, King John was at war with the very Barons who had promulgated the Great Charter. Me thinks history is about to repeat itself, with a war quickly enveloping the Republican Party and their chosen speaker Kevin McCarthy.
The question is: What comes after this war? How, and even if congress will evolve to become a more effective body?
As a college student I noted how my generation spent so much time watching General Hospital, a soap opera. I believe, this same generation, now in or approaching retirement, will renew its soap opera addiction by watching CSpan. How the world turns.
