MCCARTHY: “If we row in the same cadence together, there is no obstacle this body can overcome for this nation.”
Okay, sure. We all slip up from time to time. For instance, I can’t get through an episode of Meet the Press without accidentally calling Chuck Todd a gormless twatwaffle. But when one’s slip-up hews so close to the truth—especially after one’s mouth has been engaged in a nonstop artillery barrage of lies for months—it seems noteworthy. Because gridlock, manufactured crises, and pointless, petulant fights will now be the order of the day.
Republicans promised they’d tackle inflation—which, incidentally, is a problem that’s already largely been solved. Well, inflation is partly caused by labor shortages, and our country is facing both a short-term and long-term lack of labor. Allowing more immigration would be a healthy way to counter our low birth rates, but for Republicans that’s a nonstarter. And don’t even try to address inflation by increasing taxes on rich people. No, it’s vitally important to slow wage growth among members of the productive class instead.
Republicans are also likely to fuck with the debt ceiling—something that mysteriously went un-fucked throughout Donald Trump’s feckless Sanka fart of a presidency. Why is that? Because Democrats aren’t economic terrorists, and Republicans are. Full stop.
So, yes, Kevin McCarthy finally said something true. Don’t get too used to it.
And now for something completely different: the Townswomen Guild of Sheffield’s reenactment of the Battle for Kevin’s Disquietingly Squishy Brain.
