My first disclaimer is this, “I dare not compete with the wonderful Bucket Appy put on yesterday”. Now, on with the program.

I was out at my closest and favorite Sardis Lake site early on Jan 4th . There were Bald eagles in the air along with Fish Crows and Herring Gulls. There seemed to be a struggle for scraps left by fishermen. I focused on the four eagles in the group. There were four other individuals within eye sight ( beyond recording, except in my memory). Here is one of the other juveniles in the group closest to me.

The birds let me get quite close in my truck. They were within 500 feet of the make shift boat ramp that is used when the lake level is nearly empty. The volume is turned down because the wind was brisk. This is an introduction to the group.

I was able to get this shot when they gathered together as a unit. I am sure food was involved in the lessons (as seen in the next video).

The family unit.

The Daily Bucket is a nature refuge. We amicably discuss animals, weather, climate, soil, plants, waters and note life’s patterns. We invite you to note what you are seeing around you in your own part of the world, and to share your observations in the comments below. Each note is a record that we can refer to in the future as we try to understand the phenological patterns that are quietly unwinding around us. To have the Daily Bucket in your Activity Stream, visit Backyard Science’s profile page and click on Follow.

Please turn your volume up to catch the calls by the eagles. The wind is a distraction, but easily overlooked by the sounds of the birds. 1:38 minute video with a delay from sight to sound. x x YouTube Video Friday morning, I heard a rustling as I was searching for other bird species. I zoomed in on this Northern Flicker foraging. x x YouTube Video

This is a short and sweet as it gets during a “spur of the moment” outing. I hope all your outings are as fruitful.

What wonders of nature did you encounter lately?
