Welcome to the January 7th edition of Street Prophets Coffee Hour, the place where politics meets up with religion, art, science, food, and life. Come in, have a (warm!) cuppa, take a cookie or three, and sit with us.

As many of you probably did, I stayed up for Vote 14. It was already a couple of hours past my usual bedtime when I saw the back pats and fist bumps for Matt Gaetz, so I knew where Vote 15 was going, and I took myself off to bed. It was every bit as bad as I thought, and will probably be worse in the future than I can imagine.

The grandson who was a youngster when I wrote these weekly newsletters is now in college. Being of my gene pool, he organized his friends for a betting pool. How long would the votes go on? I haven’t checked in with him to see who won, but it’s an interesting thought for people who were first eligible to vote in November’s election. They’re going to be an involved bunch of young voters.
