The GOP is prosing radical changes in the way the House of Representatives does its business.
Individual members will have greater powers to challenge and disrupt, without necessarily accepting responsibilities for their actions.
Those of us with some knowledge of the Politics of the Kingdom of Poland pre-partition in the 18th Century will remember the procedure in the Sejm (parliament) known as Liberum Veto. In short a single member, by stating a set phrase could defeat any ongoing legislation. Stop it cold. What is more, by invoking this procedure any other legislation already passed in that current session was also automatically nullified.
The chaos and paralysis arising from misuse of this procedure is commonly cited as major reason why the fledgling Democracy of Poland suffered partitions and eventual extinction.
It might be helpful to look at this history today. It could be a warning.
