Putin Calls for Orthodox Christmas Ceasefire; Ukraine Resists [1]

Hell on Earth - as long as it's convenient for Putin

Russian leader and Horseman of the Apocalypse Intern Vladimir Putin and his lapdog, Patriarch Kirill of the Russian Orthodox Church have called for both sides to observe a 36-hour ceasefire for Orthodox Christmas on January 6 and 7.

Ukrainian civilian and military leadership have responded with a resounding dismissal of the very idea. This seems to make sense, since Russia celebrated Western Christmas by trying to stuff cruise missiles down every civilian chimney in Ukraine.

A senior aide to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, Mykhailo Podolyak, cast the Russian Orthodox Church as a "war propagandist" that had incited the "mass murder" of Ukrainians and the militarisation of Russia. "The statement of the Russian Orthodox Church about the 'Christmas Truce' is a cynical trap and an element of propaganda," he said. — www.reuters.com/...

Serhiy Haidai, head of the Luhansk regional military administration, told Ukrainian television: “Regarding this truce – they just want to get some kind of a pause for a day or two, to pull even more reserves, bring some more ammo.” “Russia cannot be trusted. Expect to see Russian propaganda efforts at painting Zelensky and Ukrainian leaders in general as heartless monsters who don’t let ethnic Russians celebrate their religion freely and expect to see those ideas parroted even here on Daily Kos. I hope we don’t fall for any of it.
