Rough Seas Greet House Republicans

House Republicans trying to seal their win is a curious thing. Why can’t they organize and select a Speaker? (While, allegedly, their esteemed Democratic colleagues watch, eating popped corn.)

I don’t think we realize the level of risk they face. Trump was skilled in modeling behavior now fully embraced by his party. Dishonesty, lawlessness, and overt spite are tolerated or practiced across the board.

They’ve all (!) proven they cannot be trusted. Some Republican House members elect face legal liability from the insurrection. With no one to trust the caucus may publicly cling and claw each other in ways we’ve not seen before. This is especially so for members with criminal exposure as Justice Department work grinds on and on with indictments served cold.

Without dependable allies, spite powered by fear can be explosive.

This is a reach – but I cannot help but wonder if they might find a way to fight their revolution among themselves, leaving the rest of us to muddle along.

If I understand it correctly, the outgoing Congress left nothing critical undone until, at least, October. That’s a fair chunk of time, politically.

There is much mischief House Republicans hope to accomplish. Perhaps they will spend their political currency emasculating each other instead. Just sayin’.

Oh, and by the way, in a parallel universe, we’ve been treated to a Biden, “I told you so.” Democratic and Republican leaders basked in the glow of funding to repair a bridge between Illinois and Kentucky. Hmmm. Crafty old dude, huh?
