Link below to an amazing article about how beavers are transforming the tundra of Alaska into something that could more resemble the Pacific Northwest or Vermont or Maine in our lifetime. Beaver dams and ponds are changing the landscape and those landscape changes can be seen from space! Satellite photos over the years show rapid and steady landscape transformation due to beaver activity. Beaver ponds create mico ecosystems, which attract new kinds of plants and animals never seen before in those areas. And, beaver ponds act as heat batteries, keeping the local environment around the ponds warmer — potentially accelerating the transformation.
