Partial screen-shot of my Inbox, one late December afternoon

If you are connected to social media in some way, like me, in recent weeks you’ve likely received upwards of a thousand e-mails, texts, messages, and letters from various do-good organizations — all vying for financial support, from a donor base that is increasingly strained by inflationary pressures.

The majority of these organizations are dedicated to doing at least something toward making the world a better place for people, nature, and planet. Yet the appeals are increasingly desperate (“We’re falling short ...”), suggesting many groups are on the brink of insolvency or oblivion.

Contrast this with the forces that thrive on war, death, destruction, corruption, repression, bribery, disinformation, exclusion, and other life-hostile activity. These seem to swim in unlimited oceans of cash.

How did it come to this?

I’ll be interested to hear your perspective in the comments below.
