I'm afraid getting back to the grind tomorrow is going to be hard... I've gotten used to spending too much time like this during the holiday break!

Not quite sure how it’s 2023 already, but here we are. Casa Brillig had a thoroughly enjoyable, very chill New Year’s weekend to usher out 2022. We worked on and finished the Lego Elf Club House pictured in last week’s Top Comments, and made a day trip up to Nashua NH to see Mr. Brillig’s parents, sister and her family. There Simba got to play with his cousin, who towered over him last time they met and now is… about the same size. We went for a walk on the beach in utterly unseasonably warm weather and had fun watching the pup rediscover salt water. And for New Year’s Eve, we invited a few friends over in the afternoon for snacks (and impromptu dinner tacos) and board games. We rang in the New Year watching TV and were in bed five minutes later!

Today was that weird “better get ourselves back in shape because tomorrow’s alarm is gonna hurt” day. After spending the break with us because her housemate had covid, K1 headed back two towns over to get ready for the school she works in to open tomorrow. K2 is making sure all his ducks are in a row for the start of his school, and Mr. Brillig is trying to avoid thinking about having to go into the office tomorrow.

I’ve really enjoyed this little bit of time, but if I’m honest, I’m ready to get going with 2023. I got out and walked 3 miles over the past two days (a total of almost 6 miles when I count total steps!) and it felt good to be making progress on my latest fitness motivator challenges. There’s work I want to do making a dent on the STUFF in Casa Brillig, beginning with packing the holiday season back into boxes :). I’ve got financial paperwork to file for our local Democratic City Committee, and a whole bunch of new recipes I want to try.

And I want to continue writing here, hopefully finding new topics that interest both myself and all of you! I hope to find more time in my day to READ more here and elsewhere. I’m looking forward to a trip to Toronto later this coming spring to see my music jam family, and after missing last year’s Netroots Nation, we’ve got our tickets and hotel for NN23: Chicago Again. Wondering if we’ll manage to drink the hotel bar dry again :)

In short, I’m excited to explore everything this New Year has to offer, and hope you are too! What are you looking forward to this year, whether it’s plans, resolutions, or simply a hope to finish the year better than you’ve come into it. Tell us all about it in the comments after perusing tonight’s Tops!
