Brave New Year

Reading through papers and posts today I find optimism bursting out all over. Of course it might seem so since 2022 was such a fraught year. Battery technology is rapidly increasing. Autocrats are losing in some places. Democrats are making gains here and repubs are in disarray. Biden’s list of accomplishments is stunning. Incentives are encouraging EV auto growth. Billionaires are losing their shirts. Science is marching on, with progress in vaccine development, and hey, the Webb telescope. Youth voting is making a difference in election outcomes.

Closer to home we’re seeing more socializing, in neighborhoods as well as in full restaurants and entertainment venues. From NY Times this morning:

For over 80 years, researchers at Harvard have studied what makes for a good life. They found one surefire, scientifically proven predictor of happiness: developing warmer relationships.

Money, as we know, can’t buy happiness (though it helps, certainly). The pandemic’s insularity is waning, and that seems to be a positive here, though China is paying a price right now.

As I write this we are planning to attend an open house which will be a mostly political activist circle. The organizer said: “Bring your cue” so it’s possible I’ll be late to KTK publishing.
