Judy Woodruff. (2022, December 30). In Wikipedia.

I’m writing a book titled All my Heroes are Women. I’ll share with you a few: Joan of Arc, RBG, and Judy Woodruff. If I ever quit researching, I might finish next year. All my characters are unique because they stand for something powerful, have integrity, scruples, morals and challenged ‘authority’ in their time to make the world better.
Since Woodruff just today, an hour before I began writing, said goodbye in her last PBS show, I thought it apropos to share it with you all. Not being a nerd with this stuff, I’m just clunking in the show and her interview segment with Brookes and Capehart farewell beginning section noted: 5:50 so you get an idea of why she’s an American treasure from two who now her well. Then we’ll visit on the other side.
I’ve been following PBS for I don’t know… a year or two, ...and during that time the news reporting is certainly exceptional much of the time and informative all the time. Not that I’m old enough to recall such things, Judy graduated from Duke in 1968, and a few years later was working in television. I hear she interviewed many heads of states, covered The White House as correspondent for NBC in 1976 and six years after. I seem to remember, and must have been very young, her interviews with Jimmy Carter, who very obviously enjoyed speaking with her very much, I hear. Woodruff became a household name, then went into PBS, anchoring a few major shows before landing permanently back at PBS for NewsHour 2006 starring with another news icon Jim Lehrer. The two were obviously well acquainted with their roles and built off each story to both entertain and enlighten.
We also will recall she has handled, sometimes with some controversy, several presidential debates. But three things stand out in her journalism: her professionalism, seeking truth and finding balance, and being tough when needed and soft if called upon because she’s a very good person, a staunch supporter of women and government working for ‘the people’. (that was more like 7 and a little- that’s how Judy is. >)
It is said that Jim Lehrer thought she was ‘the best ever’ and everyone of her guests was made to feel comfortable (but also compliant under tough questioning) and excellent follow-ups. Those were Judy’s forte.
She’s going to continue in journalism, and after some remarkable praise from two curmudgeonly characters you can hear her tell about it. Enjoy, and H, N, Y.
