Special Counsel Jack Smith

I was somewhat relieved and assured this week when Jennifer Rubin of the Washington Post stated with righteous authority that Jack Smith and the Department of Justice would criminally prosecute Donald Trump, it was part of their journalist list of optimism for 2023.

Well and good, but it simply took far too long, if indeed it ever really happens. On a base system level our government is plain busted dysfunctional, it’s as if we built a car, put in the gas and then it only goes in reverse, nothing else.

Yes it’s jarring intellectually, but as Amanda Marcotte keeps telling us at Salon we keep empirically seeing the instant effects in the Republican Party in with Santos and Lake, granting a rule of law free pass to Trump means more lawless lying Republican semi-fascist cranks who can inflict a lot of pain and damage to the democracy and the little people.

I want to circle back to Ms. Marcotte’s observation of instant lawless behavior consequences, but collapse of the rule of law in Trump prosecution failure has another added angle I see no comment on, collapse of the rule of law also recently arrives from the Supreme Court.

Just this morning the “editorial board” of the Washington Post stated flatly the court had made a mockery of the rule of law with their current immigration meander. Justice Kagan unequivocally spoke that Dobbs would create a terrible stench to the rule of law, as if the reek of Bush vs Gore had ever lifted.

Yes that dashing badass Smith is nothing more than a yapping figure of Justice Department failure, but oh my god the rule of law is under another smashing simultaneous attack in the Judicial Branch from the Supreme Court, I tell you now if this country is built on an intellectual foundation in the rule of law it’s gonzo, adios, a nice human idea completely obliterated by clueless, childishly angry American controlling trolls of the dark ages.

Collapse of law consequence means immediate political lying cranks like Santos and Lake who really could take the democracy down, but what about all the business decisions that have to abide by law and regulation? How are we supposed to solve the climate crisis with the Judicial Branch completely busted?

What about all the business decisions toward little people wages with the rule of law gone? Wage theft is rampant and intricately hidden in our America of worker bliss already, now what’s going to happen?

Half the country is now employed in what I very politely call “non-jobs”, they never pay more than 40k and have no benefits, sick or holiday pay. They fit in many family circumstances but if that’s all there is for our young people while simultaneously granting outrageous freedom to public figures like Trump, well, expect a lot more act-out criminal behavior from young souls rightfully furious at the injustice and absurdity of it all.

Then indeed an immature, angry young person rebelling foolishly will experience the instant paradox of American justice, for the little people the rule of law is implacable and the consequences for breaking it severe and immediate. Many lives will be essentially thrown away and wasted in a blizzard of human pain for letting Donald Trump skate, growing up in the 40k hard side of American life it can be hard to see and understand all this.

As if there wasn’t another reason for you to succeed, Mr. SC Jack Smith, there’s the political theory that democracies going down take about ten years to do so, here in year 7 of our American democracy threat Donald Trump still isn’t in prison. This is the final chapter in the survival of American Democracy for this democracy threat cycle, failure in your mission means failure of American democracy, it will never work that somehow we just move forward as a real progressive country with this task sitting there undone, never.
