Welcome to the December 28th edition of Street Prophets Coffee Hour, a place where politics meets up with religion, art, nature, food, and life. We’re at the middle of the week, when we need a push to get over the hump and start looking toward the weekend. Come in, take a cuppa and a cookie (or three!), and join us.
So—Captain Kori got his silver plaque! Yea! (YouTuber Kraken the Box) If you don’t know, he’s a child on palliative care in the UK. With help from Jack Sparrow and Beau of the Fifth Column, he got his wish of 100K YouTube followers (he’s now over 200K) and YouTube expedited the plaque because. . . well, because of his situation. Kori and his Mum Pixie have an Amazon wish list with a huge emphasis on items to donate locally to schools (which he’ll never get to attend) and hospitals (where he’s spent and will spend way too much time). People, sometimes y’ all inspire me.
We’ve done some of the same here, but we do it on our own, without the celebrity appeal, just us ordinary Kossacks doing what we can for our own who are in need. The people asking on our lists aren’t children, but sometimes their children are beneficiaries. So are their pets. We do it without the fanfare, because it’s needed and we only have each other. Some of our own community members aren’t doing well. Members are still here, still worried about how they will manage. Take a look, see if there’s a person or two who you feel you can help.
These community members need a little push to get over a hump. Maybe it’s an unexpected medical bill. Maybe there’s a life situation that has come up and requires resources beyond regular income. Maybe they just got behind and need help getting their footing again. For whatever reason they need help, Wednesdays are the day the Street Prophets diary focuses on those needs. Maybe you’ve skipped over this weekly diary, thinking the little you can give won’t make a difference. But you don’t have to meet a person’s entire need. If we all join together, the small amounts each person can contribute will add up to enough to make a difference in someone’s life. Even $2 or $5 or $10, when added to the mickle that others give, can be all that it takes.
Helping Humpday was one of the gifts created for us by bfitzinAR. It was taken over by DixieCollie, who also left unexpectedly. It’s still here, a place where Kossacks can share and show caring.
